Processes
Loading and unloading of road and rail tankers, floating roof and fixed roof storage, vapour recovery, pump stations and manifolds. The release points are known — seals, flanges, loading arms — but the areas are open, so a cloud drifts before it reaches a point detector.
Gas compression, custody transfer metering, pressure regulation. Leaks here are usually pressurised and disperse quickly, which is where acoustic detection earns its place alongside conventional measurement.
Furnaces, columns, heat exchangers, sour service piping. Confined space entry during turnarounds is the dominant portable detection task.

FAQ
With open path beams across the perimeter and the loading area, point detection at the known release points, and ultrasonic detection where the release would be pressurised. The three technologies answer different questions, and a tank farm usually needs at least two of them. The layout follows the release scenarios and the prevailing wind, not a grid.
A compound-specific photoionisation instrument. The UltraRAE 3000+ detects benzene from 50 ppb to 200 ppm and other volatile organic compounds from 0.05 to 10,000 ppm, which is what separates a benzene reading from a general VOC reading at a gantry where both are present.
That is the normal case. What matters is planning the sequence: what can be prefabricated, what genuinely needs the unit down, and what is commissioned afterwards. We plan that with the operator rather than arriving with a fixed schedule.
