Fixed and flame
FS24X Plus flame detector
The FS24X Plus is a multi-spectrum flame detector from Honeywell's FSX series, built to detect both hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires in one device.

What it is
Purpose and use
Hydrogen is the reason this detector exists in its current form. A hydrogen flame emits almost no visible light and very little in the infrared bands that conventional hydrocarbon flame detectors watch, which is why a plant moving to hydrogen frequently finds its existing flame detection blind to its new fire risk. Honeywell specifies WideBand IR™ infrared technology to detect both hydrocarbon and hydrogen fires before they escalate.
Honeywell further states reliable operation in the presence of environmental inhibitors such as rain, fog and smoke. The detector is performance certified to FM3260 and EN 54-10 and SIL2 certified to EN 61508.

What we deliver around this product
We work out the field of view and the mounting positions — the part that decides whether a flame detector sees a fire at all — install and commission the devices, integrate them into the fire and gas system, and include the functional test in the maintenance plan.

FAQ
Questions about FS24X Plus flame detector
Will our existing flame detectors see a hydrogen fire?
Not necessarily. A hydrogen flame is nearly invisible and emits little in the infrared bands that conventional hydrocarbon flame detectors monitor. If your plant has added hydrogen to a process that was previously hydrocarbon only, the flame detection concept has to be reviewed — the FS24X Plus is specified for both fire types in one device.
What does SIL2 certification to EN 61508 mean for our project?
It tells you the device can be used in a safety instrumented function at that integrity level. It does not by itself make your installation SIL2 — that depends on the whole loop, including the logic solver and the final element, and on the proof test interval. We document the device data so your functional safety assessment can use it.
