Engineering is the part of a project that decides whether the equipment works. We start from the process and the risk assessment, not from a product list.

How we work

What this service covers


A gas detection concept answers four questions before any equipment is named: where could a release come from, where would it go, what has to be measured and at which threshold must something happen. From those answers follow the detection technology, the number and position of the measuring points, the mounting height relative to the density of the gas, and the ventilation assumptions the whole concept depends on.

The same applies to instrumentation. Whether a flow measurement holds its stated accuracy is decided by the primary element, the straight inlet run and the impulse lines — not by the transmitter datasheet. We check those conditions before quoting a device, because an instrument installed into unsuitable conditions is an expensive way to generate wrong numbers.

The deliverable is a written concept: equipment list, positions, signal paths, alarm logic and the documentation the operator needs for approval and for the next audit.

Where our scope ends

  • We do not certify plant or issue explosion protection documents — we deliver the technical basis your assessor needs.
  • Where an approval or a technical value is not documented by the manufacturer, we say so rather than estimating it.
  • Structural, electrical installation and mechanical work outside our scope is coordinated but named separately in the offer.

1 · Basis of design

Process, media, release scenarios, zone classification, ventilation, existing installation and the operator's own requirements.

2 · Detection and measurement concept

Technology selection per measuring point, number and position of points, thresholds and alarm logic, signal path to the controller and the control system.

3 · Equipment specification

Device selection, configuration, materials and process connections, approval situation, spare parts and consumables over the service life.

4 · Documentation

Concept, equipment list, positions, wiring and the records the operator has to keep for the approval and for the audit.

FAQ

Questions about Engineering


Do we need an engineering phase if we already know which devices we want?

If the measuring points, thresholds, signal paths and documentation are already defined, no — then it is a supply order and we quote it as one. If the device list came from a catalogue rather than from a concept, a short engineering step almost always changes the quantity, and usually downwards.

Can you work from our existing hazard assessment?

Yes, and it is the right starting point. The gas detection concept has to be consistent with the explosion protection document and the risk assessment rather than parallel to them.
