High tech and specialty gases
Midas® S2 and the Midas® family
The Midas® S2 is a fixed, extractive single-point gas transmitter for continuous monitoring of low-level toxic, flammable and oxygen gases in high-purity environments.

What it is
Purpose and use
Extractive means the sample is drawn to the sensor rather than the sensor being placed in the gas. That is what makes the Midas® suitable for measuring inside a gas cabinet, a valve manifold box or an exhaust duct, where a technician could not service a sensor and where the measuring point is physically inaccessible during production.
Honeywell specifies a wide range of sensor cartridges for toxic, flammable and oxygen gas detection, with the sample drawn locally or remotely, and names semiconductor manufacturing, light industrial operations and research institutions specialising in semiconductor processing as the target applications.
The wider family covers the same principle in different configurations: Midas® uses smart sensor cartridges and Power over Ethernet, which removes a separate power installation from the measuring point, and Midas® M is a fixed extractive single-point device with a four-in-one multi-gas cartridge.

What we deliver around this product
We design the sampling lines, install and commission the transmitters, and keep the cartridge and filter supply planned — an extractive system is only as good as the line it samples through.

FAQ
Questions about Midas® S2 and the Midas® family
When is an extractive detector better than a diffusion sensor?
When the measuring point cannot be reached or is unsuitable for a sensor: inside a gas cabinet, in a duct, in a location that is inaccessible during production, or in an environment that would destroy an exposed sensor. The trade-off is the transport time of the sample, which we account for in the design.
What does Power over Ethernet change at a measuring point?
It removes a separate power installation. One cable carries both the data and the supply, which reduces the installation cost per point and simplifies the cable route — relevant when a building has dozens of measuring points.
