The Versatilis Transmitter is a battery-powered, intrinsically safe multi-variant sensor that monitors the condition of rotating equipment over LoRaWAN — without cabling, and without a field calibration routine.

What it is

Purpose and use


One device carries a suite of sensors: a triaxial accelerometer, an acoustics MEMS, surface and ambient temperature, humidity and ambient pressure. Together they give a picture of the machine rather than a single trend line, and the edge computing in the device turns the raw signal into RMS values, FFT, statistical parameters and RPM before anything is transmitted.

The economics come from the installation. There is no cabling and no transmitter power supply: the device mounts with an adhesive, magnetic, screw or epoxy adapter, runs up to five years on its battery depending on the measurement and reporting interval, and reports over LoRaWAN at up to 4 km line of sight.

Beyond rotating equipment, Honeywell positions the transmitter for remote monitoring of manual valve position, steam trap health, the surface temperature of static process equipment and environmental conditions in life science facilities.

  • Triaxial MEMS accelerometer, ±16 g, bandwidth 2500 Hz; velocity measurement to ISO 10816-3, range above 0 to 100 mm/s
  • Vibration output: RMS values, kurtosis, crest factor, skewness, FFT high energy samples and sub-band energy; FFT with 4096 lines at 1.8 Hz resolution
  • Acoustics sensor, bandwidth 20 Hz to 20 kHz, maximum 120 dB SPL
  • Surface temperature −40 °C to +80 °C, accuracy ±3 °C; ambient temperature −40 °C to +80 °C, accuracy ±2 °C
  • Pressure 335 to 1100 hPa, accuracy 0.5 % of span; humidity 0 to 100 % RH, accuracy ±3 %
  • Measurement interval 1 to 60 minutes; LoRaWAN reporting interval 1 minute to 24 hours
  • Communication: LoRaWAN Class A and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0; range 25 m line of sight for BLE and 4 km line of sight for LoRa
  • Battery life up to 3 years at a 5 minute measurement interval with a 30 minute LoRaWAN update, up to 5 years at 10 minutes and 60 minutes
  • Edge computing in the device: RMS, FFT, statistical parameters, RPM and static alarm thresholds
  • Data logging for 20 days in the default configuration; AES-256 encryption for LoRa and BLE
  • Dimensions 46 × 100 mm, weight 180 g; polycarbonate housing with aluminium base

Questions about Honeywell Versatilis™ Transmitter


Do these sensors need calibrating in the field?

No. Honeywell states that the sensors are pre-calibrated and do not require field calibration. What does need planning is the mounting: the screw mount adapter is the reference for the stated vibration accuracy.

How long does the battery last in practice?

Honeywell gives up to 3 years at a 5 minute measurement interval with a 30 minute LoRaWAN update, and up to 5 years at 10 minutes and 60 minutes. Every change to the intervals or to alarm activity moves that figure, which is why we set the intervals with you rather than leaving them at default.

Can it be installed in a hazardous area?

It is intrinsically safe to IECEx, ATEX and UKCA as Ex ia IIB T4 Ga with an ambient range of −40 °C to +80 °C. Note the gas group: IIB, not IIC — for hydrogen or acetylene atmospheres that distinction matters and we check it against your explosion protection document.
